Paul Fitzgerald asked:

Web 2.0, otherwise referred to as the “New Internet” is an evolution of the web platform. Nowadays, any and everyone can conveniently create an account in Wordpress, YouTube, Friendster, and Myspace, to name only but a few, and write daily blogs, post pictures and videos for virtually anyone’s viewing. In short, the user rules! Gone were the days when the most popular sites were run by people who encode scripts all day long in order to create an awesome site that will attract Internet users. Currently, people can easily create their own personal web pages wherein they can write their own thoughts and opinions on socially relevant issues, share experiences, pictures, and videos.

Nowadays, the Internet gives millions of people voices and backbones to show the entire world what they can do, what special skills they have, and what they think of the people who run their countries. The Internet provides each individual the opportunity to build a reputation for themselves, make money, or simply communicate to a multitude of people through out the world.

For writing journals, posting events, ideas, views, and opinions one might want to sign up with sites such as Friendster, Tagged, Multiply, and Myspace. These sites are just swarming with hip and adventurous people from all over who want to meet other people as well as share their thoughts experiences with any one who care to read their blogs. On the other hand, blogs and articles in sites like Wordpress, Hubpages and Squidoo contain reviews, useful tips, information, and insights on topics one knows and are passionate about.

For people who likes to share with other people their skills in music and the arts, video sites such as YouTube allows them to showcase their talent and help interested through posting their gigs and tutorials.

And because these social networks practically let Internet users create their own web pages, write journals, post pictures and videos, the Internet become more and more user-generated. You see, the web, just like a living thing, also evolves. And the people who use it are the ones responsible for its growth as well as the changes it goes through.

And with the throng of people crowding the web, the web has also given marketers the opportunity to effectively study trends and people. They are able to focus on a particular market and succeed in making substantial profits. Through the Internet, marketers are able to communicate directly and educate their target audience more efficiently. How? Through viral marketing. Marketers are primarily setting up strategies that will optimize their presence in the web which includes setting up blogs, postings articles and videos. These elements are effective at pulling potential customers to their own site which will eventually turn into sales.
